EU dismisses greenhouse gas cow tax claims
The European Commission has today rubbished claims that it is to introducing a tax on cows.
This follows recent speculation that a new law was being introduced which would charge farmers for the number of cattle they had as part of a clampdown on greenhouse gas emissions.
However, EU officials have labelled the story as completely untrue.
Spokesman for the European Commission in Ireland, Philippe Carr, says the EU could not enforce legislation like this, even if it wanted to.
