Aircraft crashes in Offaly

A light aircraft has crashed in Co Offaly today.

It is believed the plane suffered engine failure when coming down to land in a field in Clonbullogue shortly before 3pm this afternoon.

No passengers were on board at the time.

It is understood the pilot has gotten out of the aircraft and is being treated in hospital for shock.

A team from the Air Accident Investigation Unit is on its way to the scene.
