We are being urged to take part in 'Earth Hour' by living in darkness for an hour at the end of the month.

A billion people in a thousand cities around the world are expected to take part on Saturday, March 28, from 8.30pm.

Major sites around the country including the Rock of Cashel and historic castles will be plunged into darkness along with public buildings in Dublin.

Environment Minister John Gormley has urged all homes and businesses to take part.
