Music store hit in smash and grab raid

Thieves escaped with a handful of new releases during a smash and grab at a HMV store.

Three men kicked in the glass doors at the front of the Grafton Street shop in Dublin and grabbed some CDs and DVDs from the shelves inside.

The trio then fled on foot in the direction of St Stephen’s Green, dropping a quantity of the stolen goods as they ran.

Gardaí confirmed they are investigating the incident, which happened around 4.30am.

“There will be a lot of CCTV footage in that area what will help with the investigation,” added a garda spokesman.

HMV said the break-in was carried out by opportunist thieves.

“The perpetrators forced their way through the store’s heavy glass front door, which will now have to be replaced, and the alarm went off,” said spokesman Gennaro Castaldo.

“There wasn’t a huge amount of stock taken.

“The gardaí were quickly on the scene, and we are now working closely with them to identify the intruders and to recover the items that were stolen.”

The music store was open for business as usual throughout the day.
