Serious violent crimes in North up a quarter in a year

Serious violent crimes are up by nearly a quarter in the North in the past year, according to new police figures.

There have been 1,665 reported incidences since April last year, compared with 1,364 in the same 10-month period in 2007/08 – a rise of more than 22%.
