SR Technics workers to meet Tánaiste
Workers at SR Technics will today meet Tánaiste and Enterprise Minister Mary Coughlan regarding the closure of the troubled aircraft maintenance firm and the loss of more than 1,100 jobs.
Six workers and two union representatives will meet Ms Coughlan at the Department of Enterprise this afternoon.
SIPTU branch organiser Pat Ward said they will highlight the unique skills of the workforce to the minister.
"We do believe that SRT are wrong and that there are areas in the company that will be viable into the future," he said.
Mr Ward said it is hoped Ms Coughlan will use whatever resources are available to the Government to persuade SRT to remain in Ireland.
SR Technics recently lost a number of key contracts, including three maintenance contracts from Aer Lingus.
The group said the recent loss of major contracts and economic forecasts as well as the high cost of operating in Ireland meant there was no future in Dublin.
