Gardaí search for car used in Galway raid

Gardaí in Galway are searching for a dark-coloured BMW car with an 05 registration which they believe may be linked to an armed raid on a family home in Turloughmore last night.

Julian Flynn, his wife Emma and their four children were held at gunpoint in their home by five men shortly before 9pm.

The gang entered the house and tied up the family.

They also held two neighbours who arrived at the house after being alerted to the incident.

Gardaí arrived on the scene around 15 minutes into the ordeal and one garda was hit with a pick-axe during a subsequent confrontation.

One man was arrested at the scene and another man was also detained at a checkpoint set up in the area.

A third man also presented himself at University Hospital Galway, where he is under garda protection this morning.
