Two in custody after armed incident at Galway house
Two men are in Garda custody this morning following an incident in which a couple and their four children were held at gunpoint in their Galway home last night.
Five men armed with guns entered the house at Turloughmore just before 9pm and tied up the family.
Two neighbours subsequently arrived at the scene along with the gardaí.
Four of the raiders managed to escape following a confrontation in which one garda was hit with a pick-axe and another threatened with a gun.
One man was arrested at the house and a second at a checkpoint set up in the surrounding area.
A third man presented himself at University College Hospital and is under Garda protection this morning.
