Gardaí disappointed by Government proposals

The Garda Representative Association (GRA) is disappointed by the proposals made by the government today.

The association said they see it as Government protection for higher income earners to the detriment of the lower paid.

GRA President Michael O’Boyce said: "Our members with junior service will carry an inordinate burden if this measure is implemented. Around half of our members have six years’ service or less and many will have stretched their personal finances to the limit.

"They simply cannot afford another deduction from their income."

"Once again, those workers at the bottom are asked to make the sacrifices while those at the top are not asked to bear an equitable share."
