Pipe bomb explodes in car

A pipe bomb has exploded in a car in Derry, police said today.

The vehicle was parked in the Gartan Square area of the Bogside early this morning when the device was thrown through the window.

The car was damaged but there were no reports of injuries. Police cordoned off the area for a time but it has since reopened.

Detectives appealed for anybody with information to contact them.
