Three held after ecstasy seized

Three men were being questioned today after the Garda dog unit sniffed out 50,000 ecstasy tablets with a street value of up to half-a-million euro.

The massive haul was found in a house in the Poppintree area of Ballymun, north Dublin, at 11pm last night.

Two men, in their early 20s, and a teenager were arrested at the scene and are being detained at Blanchardstown and Finglas Garda stations on suspicion of drug trafficking.

All three can be held for up to seven days.

The planned raid was carried out by officers from the Finglas drug unit, a divisional crime task force and garda dog unit.

In a separate incident, heroin with a street value of €100,000 was discovered in Neilstown, south Dublin.

Some of the stash was found in a car which was stopped and searched, with more drugs discovered during a follow-up raid on a house.

A Garda spokesman said a male juvenile was arrested and detained at Ronanstown Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

“He can be detained for a period up to 24 hours,” the spokesman added.
