Dáil returns to business after six-week Christmas break

The Dáil formally returns to business today following its six-week Christmas break.

TDs were briefly recalled to the House last week to debate special legislation to nationalise Anglo Irish Bank, but they are only getting back to normal business today.

Up to 18 pieces of legislation are due to be published in the coming term, which ends for the Easter break on April 9.

The legislation listed for publication includes bills to introduce civil partnerships and to establish a DNA database.

However, the state of the Irish economy and the massive black hole in the public finances are expected to dominate Dáil business over the coming months.
