Two held over armed robbery bid in North

Two men were arrested today by police investigating an attempted armed robbery in Armagh during which bungling robbers dropped guns and rammed a police vehicle while fleeing.

Two masked men, one armed with a firearm, entered a house on the Keady Road in Armagh on Saturday night and were confronted by the male occupant.

There was a struggle between the householder and the intruders before the two fled.

As they made off they dropped a firearm and a stun gun, said police.

The men jumped into a 4x4 which rammed an arriving police car several times before managing to get away from the scene.

Police in Newry arrested two men, aged 23 and 42, for questioning about the raid, said the PSNI spokesman.
