Almost 80% of motorists believe roads are safe

Almost 80% of motorists believe Irish roads are safe, according to a survey by Axa Insurance.

The company says 82% of young drivers involved in the survey said the risk of getting penalty points influenced their behaviour.

More than half also said they had changed their driving habits because someone they know was involved in an accident.

However, 92% of motorists said they were conscious of the dangers of drink driving, compared to an EU average of 78%.
