Today is the start of European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week.

The aim of the week is to highlight the importance of regular smear tests for women between the ages of 25 and 64.

One woman in Europe dies from cervical cancer every 18 minutes and 73 women die from it in Ireland each year, while 180 new cases are diagnosed annually.
