The public were today urged to come forward if they know someone suffering domestic abuse as shocking new figures reveal almost a third of women fear they or someone close to them will become victims of violence at home.

Nearly 50% of people know someone who has experienced domestic abuse, according to the first ever report on attitudes towards it.
