New Year’s revellers have been warned of the dangers of drinking too much during tonight’s festivities.

Alcohol awareness agency “Drink Aware.ie” has been urging people to eat well and drink plenty of water over the course of the night.

The organisation has also advised that people organise a safe way home.

Spokesperson Fionnuala Sheehan said pacing yourself is the key.

“If you intersperse your alcoholic drinks with soft drinks and water, maybe non-alcoholic cocktails, that will really help you to pace your drinking as well as remaining refreshed so you can sustain yourself far better,” she said.
