Thousands of people are participating in a fun run to literally go an extra mile for the poor today.

The Goal Mile is taking place in over 70 locations nationwide and last year the event raised over €400,000 for the charity.

Among those taking part in the run is the Taoiseach Brian Cowen.

Zimbabwe, which is still battling with a cholera epidemic in which over 1200 people have died, is the focus of this year's fundraising campaign.
