Search launched amid boat capsize fears
A major sea rescue was under way today for a small boat with two men on board.
It is feared the vessel may have capsized in the Waterford Estuary, in the south of the county.
The Irish Coast Guard said a member of the public raised the alarm shortly after 6am.
Lifeboat and coast guard crews from Fethard-on-Sea and Dunmore, and a helicopter from Waterford, are all searching the immediate area.
A coast guard spokesman said the hunt will continue while gardai investigate the initial report.
“No boats have been reported missing in the area,” he said.
“It is a calm day and it’s calm in Waterford Estuary, but a small boat could capsize for a number of reasons.
“The search will continue for the next few hours.”
