Committee to quiz Aer Lingus and Ryanair chiefs
The Oireachtas transport committee is due to question the chief executives of Aer Lingus and Ryanair today about the latter's bid to takeover the former national airline.
Ryanair launched a second takeover bid earlier this year worth around €750m.
The Aer Lingus board has rejected the move, saying it significantly undervalues the airline.
The Government, however, has not ruled out the possibility that it might be prepared to sell its 25% stake to Ryanair.
Speaking ahead of today's meeting, Fianna Fail TD Frank Fahey, who chairs the transport committee, said the offer should be examined in detail before any decision is made.
