The army bomb squad was called to Mountjoy Garda Station in Dublin today to examine a suspicious object.

The army bomb squad was called to Mountjoy Garda Station in Dublin today to examine a suspicious object.

It is understood that the object was posted to somebody's home, and handed into officers shortly after 2pm this afternoon.

The station was sealed off and placed under quarantine, while a number of surrounding streets were also closed off.

Gardaí were diverting traffic, and motorists were advised to avoid the area.

A Garda spokesperson said the object would be removed to Cherry Orchard Hospital in Dublin for examination once it was deemed safe to do so.
