Batt O'Keeffe says he will resist any move to impose further cuts in his department's budget next year.

The Education Minister was speaking as his cabinet colleagues warn of the need to impose more cutbacks due to the huge deterioration in the public finances this year.

Education cuts in October's Budget are continuing to cause controversy, but Mr O'Keeffe has insisted that they cannot be abandoned.

He is vowing, however, that he will do his best to ensure education is not hit again.
