Parents urged to buy safety helmets for children

A leading foundation working for those with head injuries is calling acquired brain injury a silent epidemic which affects more than 10,000 people in Ireland every year.

The Peter Bradley Foundation is appealing to parents to ensure that young people given bikes or skates this Christmas are also given safety helmets.

Donnchadha Whelan from the foundation said that prevention is the best approach.

Mr Whelan said: “You will always have head injuries but it is about trying to minimise it because it is dreadful for the families and for the person who suffers it."
