Polish man wanted in Poland remanded in custody
The High Court has remanded in custody with consent to bail a 40-year-old Polish man wanted in his native country in connection with the operation of an escort agency where the women involved were engaged in prostitution.
The authorities in Poland are seeking the extradition of Wicktor Bracochi (aged 40), on charges that he, along with another person, operated and profited from the running of an escort service, which was involved in offering the services of prostitutes, on dates between 2003 and 2005.
Today at the High Court Mr Justice John MacMenamin was told that Bracochi was arrested by the Garda Extradition Unit in Tallaght, where he had been residing, on Tuesday evening on foot of a European Arrest Warrant that was endorsed by the High Court earlier this month.
The court heard that when Mr Bracochi was asked if he knew about the contents of the the warrant was about he replied: "Yes I do."
The Judge, who said he was satisfied that Mr Bracochi had been given access to both an interpreter and legal advisors, remanded the 40-year-old in custody for a week with consent to bail.
As part of the bail conditions Bracochi would have to reside at an address at Windmill Grove, Tallaght, Co Dublin, and sign on three times a week at Tallaght Garda Station.
Mr Bracochi, who had surrendered his passport to the Gardaí, also gave an undertaking not to seek any travel documents. A surety of €5000 cash would also have to be lodged.
There was no Garda objection to bail being granted.
