Almost 2,000 litres of toxic acid have been stolen in the North, police said today.

The hypochlorite acid was being carried in a trailer which was stolen along with its tractor in Co Armagh.

The green liquid, which is poisonous and will burn the skin on contact, is used as antibacterial treatment for water.

The tractor and trailer went missing from the Tandragee Road in the Jerretspass area last night.

Police warned anyone who finds the vehicle and container not to touch them and instead contact officers immediately.
