Cowen says he has no plans to increase taxes

The Taoiseach Brian Cowen says he has no plans to increase taxes in response to the worse-than-expected decline in the public finances.

Mr Cowen came under opposition pressure in the Dáil this morning after yesterday's Exchequer figures showing that the budget deficit looks set to exceed €8bn by the end of the year.
