Irish MEPs to lobby against EU fish quota cuts
Irish MEPs are due to lobby for a change in 2009 fishing quotas when they meet EU Fisheries Commissioner Joe Borg in Brussels today.
Groups representing Irish fishermen will also be attending the meeting to argue against what they say are savage and disproportionate cuts.
They claim a large proportion of the Irish fishing sector could be wiped out unless a ban on fishing for cod, haddock and whiting in 2009 is overturned at an EU summit later this month.
