Gardaí arrest man in Galway jewellery shop raid

Gardaí hunting for three armed raiders who robbed a jeweller shop in Galway city this afternoon have arrested one man.

The man was arrested as he fled on foot in the Monivea road area.

A full-scale hunt is continuing in the Athenry area for the two remaining raiders who escaped in a blue Volvo.

The three men, armed with a handgun and iron bars, held up staff at Hartmann's jewellers at Williamsgate Street just after 1pm.

A substantial amount of jewellery was stolen.

No-one was injured in the raid.
