SDLP calls for road-safety rethink after boy's death

After the death last night of a 15-year-old boy in Fermanagh in a road collision, the local SDLP assembly member has called for a complete re-think on the safety of children walking home from school.

A young girl is also fighting for her life after the accident.

The two young people were hit by a car when walking on the Croaghrim Road, in Florencecourt, Enniskillen at about 6.30pm yesterday.

Tommy Gallagher said the compulsory wearing of reflective clothing should be considered on dark winter nights.

He said once the facts are clear, governments in both jurisdictions must consider what more they can do.
