Police chiefs and politicians attend PSNI crash funeral
Police chiefs and the North's political leaders were today attending the first of the funerals for the four PSNI officers killed in an horrific road crash.
James Magee’s funeral has begun at Dromore Cathedral, Co Down, with two of his colleagues to be laid to rest later today.
Mr Magee, 27, and his colleagues Kevin Gorman, Kenny Irvine and Declan Greene died when their Mitsubishi Shogun police vehicle hit a wall and burst into flames at 4am on Sunday.
Chief Constable Hugh Orde and Assistant Chief Constable Judith Gillespie are attending the service.
They were joined by representatives of the Northern Ireland Policing Board, including Sinn Fein’s Alex Maskey.
Mr Gorman, 24, will be buried after funeral Mass in Drumaness, while the funeral of Mr Irvine, 30, is to be held later today.
The funeral of 39-year-old Declan Greene will take place tomorrow.
An investigation is under way into the cause of the tragic accident that claimed the four officers’ lives when their vehicle crashed on a section of the Warrenpoint to Rostrevor road.
