Garda: Major drugs distribution network dismantled

Gardaí tonight seized more than €500,000 worth of drugs after several raids on properties.

Officers from the Garda National Drugs Unit backed by local gardaí also recovered a large quantity of ammunition in the operation in the Drumcondra and Phibsboro areas of north Dublin.

Gardai said the cocaine and cannabis have an estimated street value, depending on forensic analysis, in excess of €500,000.

Officers also seized drug-mixing equipment including mixing agents, a hydraulic press and a cash counting machine.

A man aged in his mid-30s was arrested and is currently detained at Mountjoy garda station under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act 1996.

“This was an intelligence-led operation and Gardaí believe they have dismantled a major drugs mixing and distribution network,” said a Garda Press Office spokesman.
