The Irish Nurses Organisation says A&E departments in the north-east are struggling to cope with a huge number of patients today.

The union says 57 patients were waiting on trolleys at hospitals in Cavan, Navan, Monaghan and Drogheda this morning.

It says the system is at breaking point and is calling for an urgent meeting with HSE management to discuss the health and safety of patients.
