Health Minister Mary Harney has announced that due to current economic constraints, the rollout of the HPV vaccination programme will not go ahead.

The vaccine is given to young girls to help fight cervical cancer.

The Irish Cancer Society said it is very disappointed with the Health Minister's decision.

Eighty-one women died from cervical cancer in Ireland in 2007.
