French tourists' deaths: Tallaght man admits dangerous driving
A Tallaght man will be sentenced tomorrow at Dublin Circuit Court for causing the death of two French tourists in a car accident last year.
John Cash (aged 26), of Sundale Green pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the deaths of Martine Talon and Martine Liotard at Kylemore Road, Ballyfermot on May 16, 2007. He also pleaded guilty to not having insurance on the same occasion.
Judge Katherine Delahunt adjourned sentencing overnight to allow her read reports handed into court.
Garda Feidhlim McKenna told Mr Sean Gillane BL, prosecuting, that the two French tourists had arrived in Ireland earlier that day and were walking along the Kylemore Road when a car driven by Cash travelled to the wrong side of the road, mounted the pavement and struck the women, killing them instantly.
Garda McKenna said Cash, who had been drinking heavily, climbed into the back seat of the car before gardaí arrived and told them another person had been driving but admitted responsibility the following day.
