Army bomb experts have carried out controlled explosions on two devices, it emerged today.

The packages, found in north Dublin, were not set to detonate but the components could have been assembled for use elsewhere, the Defence Forces said.

"A controlled explosion was carried out at the scene in Fairview Park," a spokesman added.

"The bomb disposal officer gave the all clear at 3.10am.

"The remains of these improvised explosive devices were handed over to gardaí at the scene for investigation into the incident."
