8% rise in taxi fares to come into force tonight

An 8% increase in taxi fares is due to come into force across the country tonight.

The Taxi Regulator approved the rise last month because of increased costs for drivers.

The new charges mean the initial fee for hiring a taxi will rise to €4.10 between 8am and 8pm, with a premium rate of €4.45 at other times, on Sundays and during public holidays.
