Survey: Growing support for PSNI in republican area of Belfast
A survey in the staunchly republican New Lodge area of Belfast has revealed a significant improvement in attitudes towards the police.
More than half of the respondents said they would report a crime to the PSNI, while less than one-fifth said they would have no contact with the police.
More than 80% also said they believed their community groups should work with the PSNI.
A majority of respondents also said they did not feel the PSNI was doing a good job, but the organisers of the survey say this is no different from the attitude in other inner-city communities.
