Man held after North pensioner assault

A man has been arrested after two people – including a pensioner in his 70s - were assaulted in north Belfast early today.

The elderly man was attacked on the Antrim Road close to the junction with Duncairn Gardens just after 5am.

A few minutes later, a man in his 30s was assaulted when he prevented a man from entering the front door of his house at Hartwell Place.

The attacker was reported to have fled the scene in a Renault Megane car, said the PSNI.

A short time later a man was arrested at Carlisle Parade and the car recovered at Leper Street.

A police spokesman said they were trying to establish the exact circumstances of the incidents, however initial inquiries suggested a second man may have been in the car when it left Hartwell Place.
