Motorists will have to pay two new increases in charges on tolled motorways in the coming months.

Motorists will have to pay two new increases in charges on tolled motorways in the coming months.

The first price hike comes into effect on December 1 as a result of the Budget increases in VAT rates and the second on January 1 as a result of the annual rise based on the Consumer Price Index, which now stands at around 4.2%.

Dublin's M50 and the city's Port Tunnel will not be affected by the VAT increase as they are State-owned.

Motorists using routes such as Dublin's East- Link, the M1 motorway, the M4 in the midlands and the M8 Fermoy bypass in Cork will face both increases.
