Govt to bring forward plan to address Lisbon fallout

The Government will bring forward its plan to deal with the problems raised by Ireland's no vote on the Lisbon Treaty in December.

Addressing EU leaders at the European Council Summit in Brussels this evening the Taoiseach Brian Cowen said the Government is clearly focused on finding a solution.

Mr Cowen said that we should not place ourselves in a position where we could be seen to be hindering progress in Europe.

He said Ireland must explore ways of addressing the issues raised in the campaign.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin said that decisions will have to be made by December.
