NI Assembly to debate call for Omagh public inquiry

The Northern Assembly is due to hold a debate today on calls for a cross-border public inquiry into the Omagh bombing.

The families of the victims are campaigning for an inquiry to establish what the intelligence services knew in advance of the 1998 atrocity.

It recently emerged that British intelligence agents may have been monitoring the bombers as they drove the explosives to Omagh.

Omagh victims' spokesman Michael Gallagher says the support of the Northern Assembly would be a major boost to their campaign for a proper inquiry into the matter.
