Study highlights financial burden on cancer patients

Minister for Health Mary Harney said this afternoon that measures are in place to help cancer patients suffering financial hardship.

A study released earlier today by the National Cancer Registry found that many patients find it hard to pay their bills, and often have to give up work during their treatment.

Some patients have called for medical cards to be given to all cancer sufferers.

Minister Mary Harney said medical cards were available in certain cases, and that other financial measures were in place to help those suffering from cancer.
