House evacuated after Belfast bomb find

A pipe bomb was discovered today in south Belfast.

A pipe bomb was discovered today in south Belfast.

Homeowners were evacuated after the viable device was noticed in Malone Park Central, police said.

Army technical officers were called and it was removed for forensic examination.

Residents have been allowed to return to their homes.

DUP Assembly member Jimmy Spratt said: “The security forces must be commended for their action in the discovery of a pipe bomb in Malone Park Central.

“Any find of this nature is worrying.

“Such devices pose a serious danger to those in the vicinity and it is with relief that the swift action of army bomb disposal has removed the threat this device posed.”
