Irish people are making more trips to the United States than last year, according to new figures released by the Dublin Airport Authority.

Irish people are making more trips to the United States than last year, according to new figures released by the Dublin Airport Authority.

There were 1.4 million transatlantic trips between Ireland and North America during the first nine months of this year, jump of 22% on the same period, between January and September of last year.

New York was the most popular destination, with a total of 300,000 Irish people expected to visit the city this year.

Last year 270,000 Irish people visited the city, spending a total of $310m (€224.5m).

Figures from the US Department of Commerce from last year show that visits from Irish tourists were up 20%.
