National Irish Bank and Bank of Scotland (Ireland) have applied to be included in the Government's emergency scheme to support the banking sector.

Last night, Finance Minister Brian Lenihan confirmed that the Government would consider applications for inclusion in the bank guarantee scheme from foreign-owned banks with a significant retail presence in Ireland.
