Unions to oppose any jobs outsourcing at Aer Lingus

Trade unions at Aer Lingus say they are determined to oppose any plans by the airline to outsource jobs in an effort to cut costs.

SIPTU indicated its opposition to the move after a meeting with company management to discuss a proposed €100m package of cuts.

IMPACT is meeting management today to be briefed on the plan.

Speaking ahead of the discussions, spokesman Michael Landers said the union was willing to listen to the proposals.

However, he said IMPACT was also opposed to any outsourcing of jobs.

Media reports suggest Aer Lingus wants to outsource up to 1,500 jobs and use American workers on its transatlantic flights.
