Three held after robbery and car chase in Mayo

Three men are in garda custody in Co Mayo following a robbery and car chase in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí say a pub in Carrowkennedy, near Westport, was broken into and a small sum of money and other items were taken.

A short time later, an attempt was made to rob a second pub in the area, but Gardaí spotted three men leaving the premises and pursued them.

The men, who were travelling in a stolen car, rammed a patrol car a number of times and also threw bottles and other items at the vehicle.

Three men were subsequently arrested near Louisburg.
