Man’s body recovered from River Corrib in Galway

Rescuers searching for a man seen entering the River Corrib in Galway yesterday evening have recovered a body from the river this morning.

A major search operation was mounted at around 7pm after reports that a man was seen entering the water in the Dangan area of the city.

The Shannon-based coastguard helicopter, the Garda helicopter, the Lough Corrib Search and Rescue team and local gardaí were all involved in the search.

The operation was called off after nightfall, but a body was recovered shortly after the search recommenced at first light this morning.
