Sinn Féin's Dáil leader said he has seen a HSE memo which states out-patient departments at both Monaghan and Cavan Hospital will close for two two-week periods.

Sinn Féin's Dáil leader said he has seen a HSE memo which states out-patient departments at both Monaghan and Cavan Hospital will close for two two-week periods.

The proposed closures will allegedly take place from October 27 to November 7 and December 22 to January 2 next.

Caoimhghin O'Caolain has said the people of Cavan and Monaghan are being asked to pay a dear price for the HSE's budgetary incompetence.

"These steps have been signalled by the general managers of both the Cavan and Monaghan hospitals as he advises he has in excess of a quarter of a million over target spending to address in a cost containment measure," he said.
