Local loyalists are believed to be responsible for a fire that destroyed a GAA clubhouse in Co Down this morning.

Firefighters were called to St John's clubhouse near Castlewellan at around 7am.

The club says hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused and irreplaceable memorabilia, such as historic sports shirts and silver cups, have also been destroyed.
